Fire at Langkawi’s Andaman Resort

A PART of the five-star Andaman Resort in Langkawi was destroyed by fire late yesterday evening.

There is no official word on damages but social media comments indicate the fire had gutted the resort’s kitchen but no lives were lost.

A spokesman for the Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department meanwhile said the fire started at the resort’s kitchen yesterday evening.

“All staff and guests were moved to safety as soon as the firm alarm was triggered at about 5pm.

“We are now trying to contain the fire from spreading to the nearby The Datai resort,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

He said that fire had not been put off completely at the remotely located Andaman Resort.

The mainly wooded resort located in Teluk Datai was built in the 1990s.– January 13, 2021.
