PAS WILL be holding a meeting to discuss the political crisis in Perak, after witnessing the fall of menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who failed to garner majority support in a confidence vote.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said several issues to be discussed involved cooperation with Umno in Muafakat Nasional and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“PAS did not talk to Umno about tabling the motion. We are confident we can find a solution over Umno’s move.
“PAS itself has made an official statement on the matter,” he told reporters after visiting several housing estates affected by floods in Wakaf Stan, Kubang Kerian today.
Yesterday PAS made a stand of not joining efforts to form the new Perak government.
However, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party would continue its roles in the community as usual at state and national level.
Yesterday, Faizal lost the confidence vote at the state assembly, when he garnered only 10 votes compared to 48 against. One rep abstained.
The motion was brought by Barisan Nasional’s Pengkalan Baru rep Abd Manap Hashim.
Perak has 59 assemblymen comprising 25 from BN, Bersatu (4), PAS (3), DAP (16), PKR (3), Amanah (5), Gerakan (1) and independent (2).
Commenting further, Tuan Ibrahim hoped the new state government will not be dominated by the opposition.
“It should remain under PN. This should be protected and there should be consultation. Whatever it is, I need to respect Umno. I am confident the party has a solution,” he said. – Bernama, December 5, 2020.
