BERSATU is confident, if Perikatan Nasional’s current momentum in governing the country continues, of the ruling coalition winning a parliamentary supermajority in the next general election, said party youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

He said, if Bersatu could pass Budget 2021 despite multiple objections from the opposition and even Umno, the party was in full control of the current political climate.

“Alhamdulillah, Budget 2021 has also passed at policy level. If we maintain the momentum today, we will succeed in the next election, and even return with a two-thirds majority not achieved in almost two decades,” he said in his maiden speech during the Bersatu general assembly today.

The deputy youth and sports minister added Bersatu cannot achieve victory by being alone and stressed working together with other parties in PN to sweep the polls.

“When the election cry is sounded, when our masses march to form fortifications and formations, we fight as PN youth,” Wan Fayhsal said.

PN youth is being led by PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khiruddin with Wan Fahysal as deputy. PN comprises Bersatu, PAS and Sabah parties STAR and SAPP.

Wan Fayhsal also said there were 13 resolutions Bersatu youth wanted to champion, including maintaining the age of retirement; affordable housing; and include the youth in every aspect of politics, such as a quota for youth candidate in the next general elections given that a new voting age comes to effect next July.

“Armada suggests 20% of the election candidates or appointments must be from the youth. This includes parliamentarians, assemblyman, senators, local councils and administration support staff,” Wan Fayhsal said.

Bersatu youth also suggested several geopolitical measures including Malaysia becoming a focal point for multiple Islamic industries.

“As a trading nation, the security and openness of the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea must be protected from militarisation by any power,” Wan Fahysal said.

The Bersatu general assembly is meeting today via video conference as the party navigates the Covid-19 pandemic.

The third general assembly will be the first meeting after the party dropped out of Pakatan Harapan and expelled several of their founding members, including former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Mukhriz Mahathir and Syed Saddiq.

Party president Muhyiddin Yassin and Dr Mahathir fell out when Mahathir did not consent for Bersatu to leave PH, which caused the collapse of the government in February after just 22 months.

Muhyiddin went on to become prime minister by forming the PN government with Umno, PAS, GPS and other Barisan Nasional parties.

Since then, Dr Mahathir has formed Pejuang, a mirror party to Bersatu, intent on fighting corruption and those who work with kleptocrats.

However, Pejuang has still not been registered by the Registrar of Societies, despite submitting the paperwork in August. – November 28, 2020.
