Lorry driver nabbed for smuggling ketum leaves


A lorry driver was caught on Saturday at a police roadblock trying to smuggle 1.5 tonnes of ketum leaves worth RM45,000. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 23, 2020.

AT a rate of RM4 per kg – or RM6,000 in total – a lorry driver was willing to risk arrest for smuggling ketum leaves from Kedah to Kelantan.

Grik district police chief, Zulkifli Mahmood, said the 34-year-old was caught on Saturday at around 11.55pm at a police roadblock on Km9 of the Grik-Jeli East-West Highway trying to smuggle 1.5 tonnes – 150 sacks – of ketum leaves worth RM45,000.
