Lazada Group rakes in RM1 billion on 12.12

LAZADA Group raked in US$250 million (RM1.01 billion) in gross merchandise value (GMV) on its 12.12 Grand Finale Sale held in tandem with its Online Revolution campaign.

In a statement today, Lazada Malaysia, which is a unit of the group, said the 12.12 takings this year was more than double that of the previous year, and that it also broke the 11.11 sales record of US$123 million.

 “The company’s record-breaking performance in the Online Revolution campaign showcases the growing trust and relevancy of e-commerce in Malaysia and how it will continue to benefit Malaysian consumers, including the entire e-commerce ecosystem,” Lazada Malaysia chief executive officer, Hans-Peter Ressel said.  

He said the 12.12 sale in Malaysia saw more purchases recorded from areas outside of Kuala Lumpur, such as Kangar, Lundu, Tawau, and Kota Kinabalu.

Launched on December 12, 2012, the Lazada Online Revolution is aimed at encouraging consumers to experience the convenience and value of shopping online.

More than 135,000 local and international sellers dealing in 3,000 brands participated in the e-commerce campaign. – Bernama, December 19, 2017.
