SIMPANG Renggam MP Maszlee Malik has launched a new movement called #UntukMalaysia, which aims to resolve issues related to education in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The former education minister said the non-political movement transcends ideology, politics, race and class.
Maszlee said in a press conference in Cyberjaya today that extra attention will be given to pupils from the B40 segment.
“#UntukMalaysia is open to all without restriction of background,” he said, adding that he needs more volunteers and support from those in the private and corporate sector.
Maszlee said he realised from his stint in office that there were many unresolved issues including below par infrastructure or the shortage of teaching aid, which needed to be addressed.
“There are many people out there who want to offer help but they either lack the knowledge to do so, or are restricted by bureaucracy,” he said.
“In the end, the assistance does not truly end up in the hands of those who really need it,” he added.
Application and further information in contribution can be obtained from the #UntukMalaysia website.
Maszlee, who served as education minister under Pakatan Harapan, resigned on January 3, slightly over a month before the administration collapsed.
Maszlee’s recent departure from Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang, which he joined after leaving Bersatu, raised several questions on his future endeavors in politics. – November 11, 2020.
