Saarani denies conspiracy to oust Perak MB

PERAK Umno has denied allegations of a conspiracy with opposition parties in the state to seize the menteri besar post held by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Its chairman, Saarani Mohamad described it as baseless rumours deliberately played up by irresponsible parties.

“No one met me, no one offered (support) to me, no one incited me. Nothing happened,” he said during a press conference on the Perak entrepreneur grant in Ipoh today.

Saarani, who is also Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, was commenting on a report by a local portal today claiming he had enough support to bring down Faizal.

The report claimed the Kota Tampan rep had received support from four assemblymen from PKR, DAP and PAS to be appointed as the new menteri besar.

The Perak, helmed by Perikatan Nasional, comprises 25 BN state assemblymen, all of whom are from Umno, five from Bersatu, PAS (3) while the remaining seats belong to DAP (16), Amanah (5), PKR (3), Gerakan (1) and one independent.

Explaining further, Saarani, who is also the state rural development, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and consumer affairs committee chairman, said there was no conflict between him and Faizal, especially involving state administrative matters.

“Now our responsibility is to focus on the people and give them confidence that the current government is the one that will protect their wellbeing,” he said.

Apart from that, he said the current focus of the state government was to curb the spread of Covid-19, as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“We welcome the king’s decree for everyone to focus on efforts to stop the pandemic and reduce politicking. So, as the people, we must abide by the decree,” he added. – Bernama, October 28, 2020.
