THE government has decided to extend the enhanced movement-control order in Pokok Sena Prison in Kedah for another 14 days, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail Sabri said the extension was needed as there are still Covid-19 cases among prisoners and prison staff.

“On the recommendation of the National Security Council and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the government agreed to extend the EMCO for Pokok Sena Prison for another 14 days until November 7, 2020,” he said in a statement today.

He said the extension is to break the Covid-19 chain of infection in the prison, especially among the staff.

The EMCO at Pokok Sena Prison was put in place for two weeks from October 11 to 24.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at the Tawau Prison and the prison quarters in Sabah will end as scheduled on October 25, he said.

He added that no active cases were recorded at Tawau Prison and only two cases were recorded at Taman Ehsan Prison.

“In this regard, the government agreed to end EMCO in Tawau Prison and prison quarters in Taman Ehsan Tawau on October 25, 2020 as scheduled.

“However, this vicinity is still subject to the implementation of conditional MCO for the whole state of Sabah,” he said.

The government previously implemented EMCO at the Tawau Prison and its staff quarters from September 11 to September 25, which then extended to October 25.

As of October 21, the Health Ministry has made 1,250 screenings at Tawau Prison and 1,196 staff screenings at the Taman Ehsan quarters. – October 23, 2020.
