UMNO Youth has rejected any prospect of cooperating with Anwar Ibrahim and his Pakatan Harapan allies in their bid to form a new government, said its chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said this today as the youth wing of Umno supported party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s call for a political ceasefire to put an end to speculation that the Perikatan Nasional government is on shaky ground.

“(We) reject any form of cooperation with Anwar Ibrahim or other Pakatan Harapan parties, especially DAP, to topple the current government, as this is solely to fulfil his wish to become prime minister,” Asyraf said.

He said the party’s youth wing resolved this after it met online last night.

Zahid said in a statement yesterday that Umno will hold a political ceasefire as a sign of support for the Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional government.

Meanwhile, Asyraf urged the government to prepare a pandemic blueprint to handle issue like job losses, likely to affect some 2.4 million and 1.26 million people who might fall into poverty in the coming months.

He proposed for the blanket loan moratorium to be extended for three months.

Putrajaya should also to consider increasing the cash aid extended to recipients of Bantuan Prihatin Nasional in Sabah to RM1,000.

This, he said, will only cost the government RM737 million more effective compared with food aid which is mired by logistics problems and incomplete records of recipients. – October 22, 2020.
