865 new Covid-19 cases, three new deaths

MALAYSIA’S total number of Covid-19 cases doubled to more than 21,000 in the first 19 days of October, with 865 just today – the third day infections breached the 800 mark. 

Three deaths were recorded today pushing the toll to 190. Of the bulk of the cases today, 453 (of which 250 were from prisons) came from Sabah. 

The three deaths were recorded in Sabah, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The first was an 85-year-old man who died at the Tawau Hospital.

The second was a 52-year-old diabetic man who died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said Dr Noor Hisham.

He said the third person was a 70-year-old woman who died at the Duchess of Kent Hospital.

Recoveries continue to be on the upswing with 455 patients discharged from hospitals.

Dr Noor Hisham said currently there are 99 Covid-19 cases treated in the intensive care unit with 32 placed on respirators.

Selangor reported 107 new cases, while Labuan and Penang reported 34 and 26 new cases respectively.
