Kelantan cops assaulted while checking hookah lounge for CMCO compliance

TWO policemen were attacked yesterday night by a group of men while enforcing Covid-19 rules for health and safety at a hookah lounge  in Lembah Sireh, Kota Baru.

N. Indra Nahu, 33, suffered facial injuries from being punched and scratched, while Tuan Hafizuddin Tuan Muhd Sukeli, 29, broke a finger on his right hand, Kelantan police chief Shafien Mamat said.

Shafien said the incident happened around 8.15pm during a police joint CMCO compliance operation with the Kota Baru Islamic City District Council and People’s Volunteer Corps.

He said the two cops were attacked after identifying themselves.

“Police succeeded in arresting three men, ages 23- 28, including a person believed to be the proprietor,” Shafien told reporters today after visiting one of the injured personnel  at home.

He said that one of the attackers had a record of drug crimes.

Police are hunting for another suspect.

“The men are on remand for four days beginning today and the case is being investigated under Sections 353 and 186 of the Penal Code for assaulting a policeman and obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duty.

“We ask the public not to obstruct a public servant from performing their duties especially in enforcing the National Security Council’s pandemic rules,” said Shafien.

In another case, he said a 50-year-old single mother in Pasir Puteh lodged a police report yesterday after losing RM615,000 to a love scam.

“The victim was contacted by someone claiming to be a courier and who had a package for her from someone in England she had befriended on Facebook in April.”

But first she had to pay “local charges” of RM1,350 into a bank account allegedly belonging to an officer at the courier company.

After that, she continued to receive orders to make payments for various reasons, such as a sales and services tax, and to show that the package did not contain hazardous chemicals.

“The victim made various banking transactions totalling RM615,000 to different accounts belonging to different people until ti September,” said Shafien, because she was threatened with legal action when she tried to stop paying, – Bernama, October 15, 2020.
