6 new Covid-19 clusters detected, 4 in Selangor

SIX new Covid-19 clusters have been detected, with four of them in Selangor, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The remaining two are one each in Sabah and Sarawak.

The Selangor clusters include the Bah Manggis cluster, in which seven people have been infected, and is distributed across Kuala Langat, Gombak and Petaling, and Tawau in Sabah where the index case originated.

The index case tested positive for Covid-19 through symptomatic screening on October 5 and was then admitted to Tawau Hospital.

The second Selangor grouping is the Utama cluster, which today contributed three new cases, with a total of 10 infected people after contact tracing.

This cluster is spread across the Gombak and Petaling districts. Its index case tested positive on October 4.

The new Tasik cluster in Selangor also confirmed three new cases today, and is spread across Petaling, Hulu Langat and Klang.

It originated in Miri, Sarawak, where the index case tested positive through an arrival screening on October 3. This cluster is also 10-strong after contact tracing.

The fourth new cluster in Selangor, called Simera, is spread across the Petaling, Klang and Hulu Langat districts, as well as Besut in Terengganu and Kuantan in Pahang.

The index case for this cluster tested positive on October 6 and was admitted to Hulu Terengganu Hospital in Kuala Berang. A total of eight people are now infected after contact tracing.

The Highway cluster in Sabah was detected in Kota Belud and contributed 15 cases to the daily total today.

Its index case was detected through symptomatic screening on October 3, then admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. After contact tracing and testing, a total of 23 people are now infected.

The Putra cluster in Sarawak contributed four new cases today.

It originated in Bintulu, where the index case tested positive through an arrival screening when entering the state on October 3. A total of five people are currently infected in this cluster. – October 10, 2020.
