PARTIES in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) have won a total 37 seats in Sabah, enabling them to form the government with a simple majority.
Election Commission chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh in a press conference close to midnight announced the pact had won 37 out of the 65 seats declared so far.
GRS’ nearest rival Warisan managed to win 24 seats, while Upko and PKR won one each. Two seats were won by independents.
Eight more seats have yet to be declared.
Ghani however did not officially announce GRS as a winner as it is not an official coalition.
GRS is made up of Perikatan Nasional, which has so far won 17 seats, Barisan Nasional (14) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (6).
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the GRS pact just before the elections.
It brings together his own party Bersatu, which leads the PN coalition, and Umno, which is the mainstay of BN. – September 26, 2020.
