7 killed, 30 hurt in bus-truck crash in Thailand

SEVEN people were killed and at least 30 others were injured when a double-decker tour bus and an 18-wheel trailer truck collided at a traffic light junction in the Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province in Bangkok today.

The accident occurred at 3.45am, said Lt Col Anucha Kamsiang, deputy inspector at Pho Klang police station.

He said the bus, carrying 40 village health volunteers from Roi-Et town in central northeastern Thailand, to Pattaya for a holiday, hit the trailer loaded with cassava roots.

Besides the driver, the bus also had two other crew on board.

“The bus and truck overturned,” he told Bernama.

He said police are gathering evidence to determine the cause of the accident.

A volunteer from rescue volunteer foundation Hook 31, who declined to be named, said a rescue team was deployed to the scene after it received a distress call.

He said seven people were pronounced dead at the scene and they were identified as the bus driver, the two crew and four passengers.

“At least 30 other people were injured and they were brought to hospitals nearby,” he said when contacted. – Bernama, September 26, 2020.
