DAP has said it will support Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim for the position of prime minister, if he has the numbers to form a federal government.

Secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party will back the PKR president, as decided by the PH presidential council.

“As previously decided by the PH presidential council, DAP’s 42 MPs will give their full support to Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister if he has the numbers to form the government,” Lim said in a brief statement today, coming after a similar pledge of support from the pact’s other member, Amanah.

Party president Mohamad Sabu confirmed that all of Amanah’s 11 MPs are fully behind Anwar.

“As previously decided by the PH presidential council, Amanah would like to confirm that all 11 of its MPs are in full support of Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership as the PH chairman and will give him our trust in forming a new government,” Mohamad said in a brief statement earlier today.

At noon today, Anwar said the Perikatan Nasional government led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has fallen as he has a convincing majority to form a new government.

However, he did not disclose the exact number of MPs supporting him, despite being pressed several times by reporters at the press conference held at the Le Meridien Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The PKR president said he had already spoken to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah last night via phone call, after the king was admitted to the National Heart Institute.

The Port Dickson MP said he will only reveal the numbers to the public after he has presented himself to the king. – September 23, 2020.
