Singapore goes 2nd day without community virus infection

SINGAPORE has preliminarily confirmed an additional 34 new cases of Covid-19 infection in the past 24 hours, with no cases in the community for two straight days.

In its brief data released today, the republic’s Health Ministry said there were six imported cases, all of which have been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

Data on the remaining cases were not immediately available.

The new cases bring the total infection tally for the republic to 57,488.

In the full data released late yesterday, the ministry classified 996 of the reported cases as imported, 2,238 as community cases and 54,220 involving dorm residents.

The ministry said 56,802 cases have fully recovered from the infection and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

As at noon yesterday, 53 confirmed cases were still in hospital but none in intensive care.

Meanwhile, 572 patients who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19 have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to Covid-19 in the republic.
