A TOTAL of 3,549 affordable houses have been planned to be built in Sarawak under the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s (KPKT) various programmes between 2021 and 2023, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Minister Ismail Abd Muttalib said the programmes involved are the People’s Housing Projects (PPR), Malaysian Civil Servants’ Housing (PPAM), PR1MA housing projects and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) housing programmes.

“It was proposed that 750 units will be built under PPR, 538 units under PPAM, 702 units under PR1MA and 1,559 units under SPNB,” he said in reply to senator Robert Lau, who wanted to know the number of affordable houses proposed for Sarawak for the said period.

Ismail said, up to July 30, eight projects involving 4,140 PPR units had been completed in the state, while another three projects were under construction and expected to be over the next two years.

He said the minister had also proposed two new PPR projects to the Economic Planning Unit involving the construction of 500 apartment units in Bintulu and 250 single-storey terrace houses in Mukah.

However, he said, the proposals have yet to be approved by the agency. – Bernama, September 10, 2020.
