THE banks have deferred collecting more than RM78 billion in loan repayments under a moratorium as of August 21, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said today.

Of this figure, RM27.35 billion was utilised by the business sector and the remainder by the people.

The six-month moratorium came into effect on April 1 and expires September 30.

“For those who still need a moratorium extension and targeted bank assistance after September 30, the banking institutions are ready to help the borrowers.

“Those who are still affected can start contacting the respective banks to discuss and apply for repayment flexibility,” he said in the 19th Laksana report on the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package and National Economic Recovery Plan. – Bernama, September 2, 2020.
