DAP has sacked eight members for indiscipline, said Chong Chieng Jen.

The disciplinary board chairman said they went against the party’s ideology by attending a press conference by Perak assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam, who quit DAP in March and joined Gerakan in June.

The decision to boot out the eight – Dan Adriel, Angeline Philip, Murugiah Palany, Joseph Hendry, Amir Abdullah, Marimutu Ranggasamay, Theivanai Selban and William John – was made by the disciplinary board at a meeting yesterday.

Chong said they were given the chance to explain themselves to the board, but chose not to show up.

He said DAP will not hesitate to expel those who go against its direction, adding that the party will neither tolerate members who accept offers from the Perikatan Nasional government nor help traitors.

Sivasubramaniam left DAP after Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu announced PN’s takeover of the state administration.

After being a member for 23 years, the three-term Buntong rep became a PN-friendly independent before his move to Gerakan.

He had said seven or eight DAP assemblymen from Perak were planning to quit the party.

With his departure, DAP now holds 16 seats in the Perak legislature. – September 1, 2020.
