UMNO leader Jamal Md Yunos will be remanded for two days to assist police investigations into his act of burning cut-outs of former minister Zaid Ibrahim.

Jamal’s lawyer, Mohamad Imran Tamrin, said the Sg Besar Umno division chief was remanded today following his arrest last night for provocation and minor offences.

He had burned cut-outs of Zaid after alleging that the DAP member had insulted the Selangor sultan.

“We also want the police to take action against Zaid under the Sedition Act for insulting the sultan of Selangor,” Imran told The Malaysian Insight.

The Malaysian Insight reported that Jamal had allegedly burned the cut-outs shortly after lodging a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters against Zaid on Wednesday.

Jamal said Zaid through his Twitter account had questioned Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s criticism of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his remarks on the Bugis community.

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun also said police are investigating Jamal’s recent threat to bash in Zaid’s head with a hammer.

Fuzi said several police reports were lodged over Jamal’s antics at the Umno general assembly following the threaten d to bash the former de facto law minister’s head in with a hammer over comments regarding the Selangor sultan.

Separately, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Mazlan Lazim told the media he had briefed Fuzi on Jamal’s case.

“I have already brief the IGP on the issue. Let us carry out the investigations first. We have already remanded him until Monday (tomorrow),” he said after launching a Cyber crime programme at Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur today.

Zaid later expressed fears for his safety and that of his family’s on his Twitter account and said he “hoped the inspector-general of police will take care of our safety”.

Zaid incurred the sultan’s wrath after he told the Selangor ruler to be careful with his words when criticising Dr Mahathir.

Zaid had tweeted “no one is immune when the country burns”, in relation to an interview the sultan gave to The Star, in which he described Dr Mahathir as an angry leader whose “anger would burn the whole country”. – December 10, 2017.
