TAKIYUDDIN Hassan today stressed that the government is not required to give a reason for its withdrawal of the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2019 to limit the prime minister’s time in office to just two terms.

The de facto law minister said Clause 62 of the Standing Orders states that “the member in charge of a bill may rise in his place and request that the bill be withdrawn… or that the next stage of the bill be postponed either before the commencement of public business or when any stage of the bill is reached in the order of business”.

“There is no mention that the government must give a reason for a bill’s withdrawal,” he said in response to a motion raised by Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru) on the matter after the question-and-answer session.

Takiyuddin yesterday withdrew the bill, which was first tabled by the Pakatan Harapan administration last year. – Bernama, August 27, 2020.

  • Seriously think cant because he is smart enough to cook up a reason. Somehow this fool believes his pay god is from god rather then the taxpayers like us. Thats the reason he has to tell us why.
