Man held with 400kg ketum leaves in Kuala Perlis

THE Langkawi region 1 marine police team arrested a man with 400kg ketum leaves in Op Benteng at Kg Wai, Kuala Perlis, this morning.

Officer-in-charge Rohizan Mohamad Saaid said a team spotted the 29-year-old behaving suspiciously at the roadside near a river about 6.30am.

“Checks on the man led to two gunny sacks believed to contain ketum leaves. In investigations, the suspect confessed the leaves belonged to him.

“He then led operations personnel to a second location – a car used to hide four more gunny sacks.

“The suspect then led the officers to a third location – a house in Kg Pulau Ketam, Kuala Perlis, where another six gunny sacks containing ketum leaves were found,” he said in a statement.

Rohizan said the man, together with the 12 sacks, have been handed over to the Kangar CID for further probe.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 for possessing ketum leaves. – Bernama, August 9, 2020.
