THE Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (MEDAC) and its agencies have undertaken various initiatives in terms of financing and training to help entrepreneurs, especially youth, endure the impact of Covid-19.

The ministry said among the initiatives implemented were providing funds for entrepreneurs, deferring loan repayment or moratorium, introducing online entrepreneurship training and guidance, and implementing high-impact programmes.

The programmes include Technopreneurship for Fresh Graduates, Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE) and Mobilepreneur, the ministry said in a written reply to a question from June Leow (PH-Hulu Selangor) in Dewan Rakyat today.

The Technopreneurship for Fresh Graduates programme aims to develop the skills and knowledge of fresh graduates of institutions of higher learning on technology 4.0, thus creating opportunities for youth to gain jobs and venture into technology entrepreneurship.

The TUBE programme, which aims to encourage youth to venture into business, is expected to produce at least 900 entrepreneurs and create 1,000 jobs in the implementation years of 2020-2021.

The Mobilepreneur programme, which implemented through MEDAC’s TEKUN Nasional, provides a maximum financing of up to RM10,000 as working capital, as well as for repair and purchase of motorcycles to individuals who are interested in pursuing delivery services in collaboration with delivery companies such as GrabFood, FoodPanda and BungkusIT.

Besides that, the ministry is also cooperating with the Youth and Sports Ministry to create entrepreneurial opportunities for young people who want to start a business during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Among the initiatives implemented are the New Gen Entrepreneur Online Bootcamp, Angsana Online UDA Digital Mall, and Youth Entrepreneur Franchise Programme.

“In addition, the ministry through the MyAssist portal will provide online business guidance to entrepreneurs, including young entrepreneurs, as well as increase access to information and facilities, and entrepreneurial facilitation,” he said. – Bernama, August 5, 2020.

  • First, assess the programmes to make sure the entrepreneurs will benefit from it. It should be high quality programmes that is impactful. If the programmes are not up to standard it shouldnt be conducted as it will just be a waste of the entrepreneurs time and a waste of government money.
