A TOTAL of 3,173 investigation papers on indiscipline in the police force were opened by the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) from January 2019 to June this year.

Bukit Aman JIPS director Zamri Yahya said 1,673 probes have been completed, with the rest being acted upon.

“An investigation will be conducted after a complaint is received to determine whether the accusation is valid before disciplinary action is taken. Most of the complaints involve offences while on the job.

“Police officers and personnel can be sacked if they are found to have committed a criminal offence.

“Those who commit general offences will get a warning letter, and action will be taken if they continue to flout the rules,” he told a press conference in Alor Star today.

He said cops who break disciplinary rules are a bigger worry than those abusing drugs.

“Everyday, we receive reports on their involvement in drug activities, with 91 cases filed from January 2019 to June this year. So, firm action must continue to protect the good name and integrity of the police force.”

On the proposed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission, he said a motion on the matter will be brought to Parliament in the coming days. – Bernama, August 5, 2020.
