Former KTMB engineer claims trial to bribery charges

A FORMER Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) civil engineer was today charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with two counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM1,450 five years ago.

Mohd Amin Muhammad N. Hushaimi, 36, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were read out before judge Rozina Ayob.

He was charged, in his capacity as a civil engineer with KTMB’s Project Management Department, with corruptly receiving RM950 and RM500 on two ocassions from one Mohd Nizam Hasan as an inducement to not recommend a temporary stop-work order due to safety factors at three sites – the Abdullah Hukum light rail transit station, KTM Komuter station and Kajang 2 Integrated Komuter Station.

The offences were allegedly committed at the Maybank branch at KL City Air Terminal, KL Sentral, on July 15 and September 14, 2015.

The charges are under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Amin Muhammad was allowed bail at RM6,000 with one surety on both charges, and ordered to surrender his passport to the court and report himself once a month to the nearest MACC office.

The court set September 23 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Asraf Mohamed Tahir prosecuted, while lawyer Shahidah Muslimah Roslan represented the accused. – Bernama, August 5, 2020.
