Sabah officially notifies EC of dissolution

THE Election Commission has been officially informed of the Sabah assembly’s dissolution yesterday and will soon be holding a meeting on state polls.

“The EC has received an official notification from the Sabah state assembly on July 30 in connection with the dissolution of Sabah’s 15th term state assembly.

“A meeting will be held soon on the implementation of state polls. The EC will be informing of the date of the meeting later,” said EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak in a statement today.

According to Article 21(4) of Sabah Constitution, the election must be held “within 60 days from the date of dissolution”.

The assembly was dissolved yesterday after Governor Juhar Mahiruddin consented to Chief Minister Shafie Apdal’s request.

The dissolution puts an end to hopes by former chief minister Musa Aman to form a new state government after he said he had a simple majority. – July 31, 2020.
