POLICE are looking for the organisers of the gathering outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex yesterday during Najib Razak’s case decision, said Mazlan Mansor.

The deputy inspector-general of police said a police report was lodged over the gathering.

“We are investigating the matter and are aware of the public outcry,” he told reporters at an event in the capital today.

Mazlan said the organisers expected some 900 supporters but they did not comply with police conditions, particularly on social distancing.

“Maybe they were excited in the moment, but they should have known better.

“We should be taking care of each other, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

The crowd, including Umno MPs, came in support of the former prime minister during the verdict for his graft charges in the SRC International case.

Police warned those gathered several times to observe social distancing and to wear masks.

Najib was found guilty of seven charges over the RM42 million in SRC International Bhd funds that went to his bank accounts.

Three charges are for money-laundering, three for criminal breach of trust, and one for abuse of power.
