THE possible extension of a loan moratorium to help businesses and individuals stay afloat amid the Covid-19 pandemic is among the issues to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Order Paper posted on the Parliament website, Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) is scheduled to ask the finance minister to state whether the moratorium by banks will be extended by another six months, and if it will not, what assistance will be given with regard to housing, car and credit card loans.

The former finance minister will also ask why interest is still being charged despite the previously announced exemption.

The moratorium is due to end in September.

Yamani Hafez Musa (Bersatu-Sipitang), meanwhile, is expected to ask the tourism, arts and culture minister about tour operators and the public’s response to domestic travel following the worst of the coronavirus outbreak.

The ninth day of the sitting will also see the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address continue, as well as the first reading of the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020 to address drink-driving.
