Cross-border travel likely to resume August 17 after ‘historic’ Malaysia-Singapore meeting

THE foreign ministers of Malaysia and Singapore held a meeting today at the midway point of the Johor Causeway and agreed to resume as early as August 17 cross-border travel that had been barred since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hishammuddin Hussein and his Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met face-to-face – a rare event in the age of the coronavirus – for 10 minues, after which the Malaysian minister said the successful discussion was the precursor to the reopening of the two countries borders to each other.
