IGP proposes task force to probe Adib's death

A police investigation and an inquest have failed to uncover Muhammad Adib Kassim's assailants on the night of November 27, 2018. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 10, 2020.

POLICE planned to form a task force to investigate the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Kassim, said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.

He said the probe would focus on the witnesses.

“This includes the forensic pathologist from Kuala Lumpur Hospital and another forensic specialist appointed by Muhammad Adib’s family during the inquest held last year from February 11 to July 24.”

“This team is similar to the one that was formed to look into the death of an 18-year-old model from the Netherlands, who died after allegedly falling from a building several years ago,” he said at a special press conference in Bukit Aman today.

Hamid said police would propose to the Home Ministry that the team be set up to look into Adib’s case due to the conflicting opinions of the two pathologists who performed the post-mortem.

He said police have recalled 31 of the inquest witnesses and recorded the statements of 52 new witnesses following the coroner court ruling that the fireman’s death was caused by two or more unknown persons.

Hamid said the case remained open and that the police continued to seek justice for Adib.

He urged those with any information to contact the police.

Adib, 24, who was a member of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit at the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, was badly injured while on duty during a riot near the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on November 27, 2018. He died 21 days later on December 17 at the National Heart Institute. – Bernama, July 10, 2020.

  • Any right thinking Government will not waste time on this dead man after the coroner's verdict. Are you trying to please the family or your political arrogance spending taxpayers money?
