THE Amanah headquarters have been raided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, said party secretary-general Mohd Hatta Ramli.

It is believed to be in relation to the arrest of a former aide to Mohamad Sabu, who previously held the defence portfolio, over alleged kickbacks in a RM56 million contract.

In a statement, Hatta said MACC personnel searched the Amanah office in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

“The raid was conducted without a search warrant. The MACC officers replied that the warrant would be handed over to the aide, who was with them at the time the request was made for the document to be produced.

“Amanah demands that MACC be professional in its investigation and carry it out in accordance with laws and procedures. Amanah views with concern MACC’s excessive attitude.”

Mohamad’s former aide has been remanded for six days to facilitate the probe into the contract, which is for an unnamed ministry.

He is being investigated for allegedly accepting gratification for the contract awarded directly to a company last August. At the time, he was working for the then minister.

The Putrajaya magistrates’ court this morning allowed MACC’s application to hold the suspect until July 13.

Sources said the 49-year-old was arrested about 8pm yesterday when he turned up at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya for questioning.

The anti-graft agency has seized more than RM70,000 and documents related to the case. – July 8, 2020.
