3 new Covid-19 cases, but no Malaysians among local transmissions

THREE Covid-19 infections were detected today, but no Malaysians were involved in the local transmission of the disease, the Health Ministry reports today.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the three new cases involved a Malaysian who returned from abroad, and two foreigners in the country.

“One case is from the Bukit Bintang cluster and the other case is from a screening at a lock up in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah,” he said in a statement.

Noor Hisham said the tally of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia is now 8,643.

Dr Noor Hisham said that they have identified 11 positive cases from the Bukit Bintang cluster.

“These positive cases involve 10 Bangladeshis and one Malaysian.

“So far, 304 people have been screened, of which 204 are foreigners and 100 are Malaysians,” he said.

He said the new cases were detected from repeated screenings at the quarantine centre.

“The others are still segregated in the quarantine centre, while the positive case is hospitalised, therefore, they do not carry any risk of transmission.

“The cause of this cluster infection is still under investigation.” – July 2, 2020.
