7 arrested over kidnapping, death of property developer

POLICE have arrested seven people, including a Bangladeshi man, after today’s discovery of a body of a businessman in Bestari Jaya, reported The Star.

Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat was quoted as saying that the suspects, men aged between 30 and 50, were picked up around Selangor yesterday and today.

“The suspects had demanded a ransom of SG$50 million (RM154 million) from the victim’s family after the kidnapping.

“But, the ransom has not been paid,” he told the media after inspecting the house where the victim was held in Taman Kosaso in Rawang, Selangor, today.

He said the suspects had been taken to the house to assist in investigations.

“One of the suspects then led police to the victim’s body at 9am today.

“The suspects also claimed the victim died three to four days after he was kidnapped,” Fadzil was quoted as saying.

The body of the 55-year-old victim, who is a property developer, was found among some shrubs at Batu 27 Jalan Rawang.

He was kidnapped on June 10 while jogging in Bandar Sri Damansara.

Fadzil said the body has been sent to Sg Buloh Hospital for post-mortem.

He added investigations found that the mastermind behind the kidnapping was known to the victim.

“We are still investigating the motive behind the kidnapping and the cause of death,” he told The Star. – June 27, 2020.
