1,000 Warisan members in Libaran quit

MORE than 1,000 Parti Warisan Sabah members in Libaran, among them 11 branch leaders, have quit the party.

Ibrahim Yusof of the Sejati 1 branch said the exodus involves all branches in the district polling centres of Airport and Sibugal.

He cited neglect by Warisan’s top leadership following the party’s win in the 2018 elections.

“We all worked hard towards the victory, but we’ve never been appreciated,” he told a press conference in Sandakan today.

Present at the presser were the 11 branch leaders who quit.

Ibrahim said the branches, save for Seri Hujung, have yet to be registered with the Registrar of Societies despite having submitted applications before the elections.

However, Seri Hujung branch members, too, decided to leave the party, he said.

He added that the members in Libaran quit without coercion from other quarters.

Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, 12 Warisan members from four branches in Kota Belud said they have left the party, citing its poor member-registration process.

The group, led by Kota Belud pro tem branch chief Awang Saleh Makmud, said another 500 members will follow suit.

“The unsystematic registration process has forced thousands of people to wait for more than a year for their membership to be officially registered,” Awang Saleh told reporters. – Bernama, June 26, 2020.
