DR Mahathir Mohamad has said that he would not support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s government because Muhyiddin had betrayed the people, who had brought down Najib Razak’s kleptocratic government.

In a post uploaded to his blog today, Dr Mahathir stated that Muhyiddin’s Bersatu party would lose in the next general election because it would face opposition from its new ally Umno.

“Many have asked me to work with Muhyiddin. I was with him in establishing Bersatu in order to bring down Najib Razak’s kleptocratic government.

“The people trusted us and gave us victory with our friends in Pakatan Harapan.

“However, Muhyiddin and some Umno people who joined Bersatu planned to bring down PH and form a new government with the kleptocrats who lost in the election.

“Without PH, Muhyiddin would not have won the election,” the former prime minister said.

Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin are now in a tussle to take control of Bersatu.

In the latest move, party president Muhyiddin’s faction has announced that Dr Mahathir and a group of his supporters have had their party membership voided for supporting PH.

In return, Dr Mahathir is suing Muhyiddin over the “dismissal” from the party.

Speaking further, Dr Mahathir once again defended PH partner DAP by saying that the party was never in control of the cabinet he headed as prime minister.

“DAP had six ministers with 42 seats. Bersatu had six with 13 seats. DAP would not be in power and all the decisions had to be approved by all 28 cabinet members.

“I, as the prime minister, had the final say,” Dr Mahathir said, adding that Umno and PAS had played up the Malay sentiment issue by portraying DAP as the driving force in the short-lived PH government.

Umno – heading Barisan Nasional – and PAS then formed an alliance with Bersatu and other parties to form the federal government after the collapse of the PH administration.

Dr Mahathir said Bersatu under Muhyiddin would struggle in the next general election without the support of PH.

“In the next general election, Umno will contest against Bersatu, not just leaving Muhyiddin defeated but also all other Bersatu candidates.

“This will end the history of Bersatu and Umno will once again rule the roost with its ‘cash is king’ concept.

“The history will record Muhyiddin’s betrayal of the people who gave victory to PH.

“I do not wish to be with Muhyiddin and his betrayal.” – June 25, 2020.
