THE Orang Asli need an economic stimulus package tailored to them in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and movement-control order (MCO), said Senator Manolan Mohamad.

Manolan, who represents the community, said Putrajaya must look at how countries like Canada and the US assist their indigenous peoples.

He told the livestreamed Orang Asli Speak: Facing Post-MCO Challenges forum that many in the community have lost their jobs, and those earning a daily wage have not made anything as nearly all work was stopped under movement controls.

The forum was broadcast on the Centre for Orang Asli Concerns’ Facebook page.

Manolan also suggested that the Orang Asli Development Department try to secure work for Orang Asli on Rubber Industry Smallholders’ Development Authority and Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority farms and plantations developed on the community’s land. – June 19, 2020.
