MISC chairman Noh Omar resigns after 17 days

UMNO politician Noh Omar has resigned the MISC Bhd chair just 17 days after his appointment.

MISC said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia that Noh decided to tender his resignation following a discussion with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Tan Sri Noh Haji Omar made the decision to tender his resignation upon discussion with the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia,” the energy shipping and maritime services group told the stock exchange.

MISC announced the appointment of the Tanjung Karang MP via a bourse filing on June 1.

The 62-year-old took over the reins from Ab Halim Mohyiddin, who was redesignated as independent and non-executive director of the company.

The former urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister was among the Perikatan Nasional backbenchers given key positions in government-linked companies, a move that was widely perceived to be the prime minister’s attempt at buying support.

At 2.20pm, the MISC share price was down 21 sen to trade at RM7.93, with 1.78 million shares changing hands. – June 18, 2020.
