AUTHORITIES must drop their investigations against Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh over her tweet, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.

The former deputy prime minister said Putrajaya must not intimidate opposition MPs for raising matters of public interest.

Yeoh was also Wan Azizah’s deputy in the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry under the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.

She has been summoned to Bukit Aman to answer for her tweet on the fate of the child marriage roadmap, a key PH policy.

She was referring to the five-year National Strategy Plan to end child marriage, announced in January.

The tweet in question was dated March 9, in which she asked what would happen to the roadmap after the appointment of her successor and Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff.

Wan Azizah said the roadmap was put in place after difficulties in addressing underaged marriages involving Muslim minors.

“Was it wrong for Hannah Yeoh, the former deputy minister of women, family and community development, who also took part in the formulation of the roadmap, to ask about the status of the roadmap?” she asked in a statement today.

Yeoh has not said when she was to be present at Bukit Aman. – June 17, 2020.

  • How many child marriages have occurred? Very few. Is it worth pursuing the matter. Agree police have better things to do though
