MORE mosques may be allowed to open in the Federal Territories following good standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance achieved by those allowed to hold congregational prayers, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said he has been briefed by the police that mosques have adhered to the guidelines during Friday prayers.

“Yesterday was the first day that mosques in FT were allowed to perform Friday prayers by admitting one-third capacity of its congregation, and there was no breach of SOP.

“The government will discuss the idea of reopening more mosques in FT,” he said during his daily press conference today.

Yesterday, Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri said all mosques and surau in the Federal Territories would be allowed to conduct Friday prayers and congregational prayers, but with only a third of the prayer hall filled.

He said this ease of restrictions was however limited to mosques and surau in green zones in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan.

The proposal was mooted by the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs’ Special Muzakarah Committee on Tuesday and was presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for consent. – June 13, 2020.
