Warisan MPs rubbish defection rumours

PARTI Warisan Sabah MPs today dismissed reports of defections from the party.

“We firmly deny such baseless rumours, and wish to make clear that the said reports and statements are entirely false,” they said in a joint statement.

Such “scandalous rumours of defection” reflect the Perikatan Nasional government’s “sheer desperation” to maintain its razor-thin majority before Parliament convenes next month, when a motion of no confidence is set to be tabled against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“This seems to have sparked an unethical shopping spree of MPs. But not us. We will not betray the people’s mandate. We stand resolute on our principles,” said the lawmakers.

They also affirmed their support for Sabah Chief Minister and Semporna MP Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The MPs said they are focusing on important matters concerning their constituents and the country amid the Covid-19 crisis, noting that not much can be done without a Parliament sitting.

The statement was signed by Liew Vui Keong (Batu Sapi), Darell Leiking (Penampang), Mohamaddin Ketapi (Lahad Datu), Azis Jamman (Sepanggar), Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Kota Belud), Ma’mun Sulaiman (Kalabakan), Ahmad Hassan (Papar) and Rozman Isli (Labuan).

Harian Metro had reported that four Warisan MPs would quit the party to support PN. However, the article is no longer accessible on its portal. – June 10, 2020.
