ANWAR Ibrahim last night met Pakatan Harapan leaders, hours after the group’s meeting with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Parti Warisan Sabah president Mohd Shafie Apdal.

PH’s social media accounts published photos of the Anwar meeting, showing the PKR president and opposition leader with Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and national organising secretary Anthony Loke, and PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“The main leadership of PH met tonight, and repeats its commitment to strengthen the coalition,” said the post.

“PH will make all decisions based on consensus.

“God willing, there will be a big change in the near future.”

The meeting was held amid talk that PH components, Warisan and Dr Mahathir’s faction in Bersatu are working towards obtaining majority support from MPs three months after the pact that won the 2018 general election was ousted from Putrajaya.

No PKR member joined the earlier meeting between Dr Mahathir, Amanah and DAP leaders, Shafie, former Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya and Mukhriz Mahathir, who was among the lawmakers who had their Bersatu memberships “stopped” last week.

Anwar was also absent from a press conference that Dr Mahathir gave following the one-day parliamentary sitting on May 18. Other PH party leaders were present.

The Port Dickson MP later said he did not attend the presser as it was not an official one by PH.

Political analysts have pointed out that the issue of power transition from Dr Mahathir to Anwar must be resolved if the former ruling pact is to mount an effective challenge against Perikatan Nasional. – June 5, 2020.
