Stop putting personal interest above nation, Hannah tells Najib

NAJIB Razak should not be suggesting snap elections when schools remain closed and people are suffering economically from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, said Hannah Yeoh today.

The Segambut MP said Najib is irresponsible for suggesting that snap elections are likely given the present political uncertainty.

She was referring to Najib’s remarks yesterday when he also suggested that the Health Ministry and the Election Commission start drafting standard operating procedures for elections.

“In a time when schools have yet to reopen, hairdressers have had zero income for three months and people being retrenched, this Umno leader is busy suggesting snap polls.

“He even went as far as calling for SOPs to be drawn up by the Ministry of Health and Election Commission for polls,” said Yeoh today.

The former deputy minister in the Pakatan Harapan government said parents are forced to provide care for their children nationwide unable to return to schools.

Even though businesses are allowed to operate, the reality is many are struggling to stay afloat, she said.

“It is, therefore, most atrocious of Najib to have conceived such an outrageous suggestion.

“If there is ever another need for an example to convince the people that Umno/Perikatan Nasional is all about grabbing power and GLC positions, please remember his aforementioned call.

“This is the clearest sign that Najib is putting his political interest above the welfare of the nation.”

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should tell Najib to stop undermining the razor-thin majority government, Yeoh added.

In a Facebook posting yesterday Najib also accused PH of playing politics by trying to buy over PN lawmakers to topple the government.

He also reminded the opposition that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah stated that the political situation and the government need to be stable.

“He asked not to raise political scandals at a time when the nation is facing its biggest economic and health crises, but PH still wants to oust the government by buying over Perikatan MPs.

“Even if PH has enough (MPs), that number would be a slim one and Pakatan 2.0 would not be stable enough. One or two jumps and the government will change hands again,” Najib said.

“The king can then use his wisdom and power to dissolve Parliament to solve the country’s political instability.” – June 4, 2020.
