DESPITE the constant reminders that interstate travel is an offence during the conditional movement-control order, many are still attempting to defy the ban.

Senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday the number of vehicles ordered to turn back after they tried to cross state lines rose to 1,243 on Sunday compared with the day before, besides the 14 fined after committing the offence and are already in their hometowns to celebrate Aidilfitri.

Ismail Sabri said there are some people who think police are on a break during Hari Raya and would not track down those who slipped through using trunk roads.

Yesterday, 172 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country, with the majority being illegal immigrants detained at three immigration detention centres, bringing the total so far to 7,417.

According to director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the total number of patients who have recovered and been discharged from the wards stands at 5,979, with the number of deaths at 115. – Bernama, May 26, 2020.
