BERSATU lawmakers who chose to sit with the opposition in Parliament on Monday should automatically lose their party membership, said party supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
In a statement, he said this was provided for in the party constitution.
“All parties have their discipline and all members must respect this.
“In the Bersatu constitution, joining the opposition is something that could result in the automatic termination of membership without disciplinary action,” he said in the statement.
Wan Saiful called on the leadership to immediately review membership status for everyone in the party without fear or favour.
Wan Saiful said Bersatu should not tolerate the existence of an elite caste who can thumb their nose at party discipline.
“By right, they should not be arrogant and feel like they are above the others, to the point of refusing to sit with the party bloc (backbenchers),” he said.
Wan Saiful warned the party will be destroyed if the leaders think only of themselves, without caring about the impact of their actions on public perception.
On Monday, Dr Mahathir Mohamad sat with the Pakatan Harapan-led opposition bench, along with four other Bersatu MPs loyal to him: Mukhriz Mahathir (Jerlun), Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam), Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar) and Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu). – May 21, 2020.
