THE trial of Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, charged with receiving a RM2 million bribe from a businessman, will resume on June 29.

High court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan fixed three consecutive days for the hearing.

He ordered the defence to submit written witness statements to the prosecution a week before the hearing.

Lawyer Cains Tan, representing the former Federal Territories minister, said he will call three more witnesses.

Deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim prosecuted.

On October 14 last year, the high court ordered Tengku Adnan, 69, to enter his defence after finding that the prosecution succeeded in establishing a prima facie case.

He completed giving his evidence on March 5. He chose to testify under oath from the witness stand when the defence proceedings commenced on January 17.

Tengku Adnan was charged in his capacity as a public servant with accepting for himself RM2 million from Chai Kin Kong, director of Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd, via a Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque belonging to the company that was later deposited into the CIMB Bank account of Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd, in which the former minister had an interest.

The offence was allegedly committed on June 14, 2016.

The charge, under Section 165 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama, May 19, 2020.
