Man claims trial to insulting Agong on Twitter


AN e-hailing driver today pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to eight counts of improperly using network facilities by tweeting offensive comments on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last month.

Sufazrin Amin Ismail, 26, entered the plea after the charges were read out to him before judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.

On all eight counts, he was charged with knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive communications with the intent to annoy others through the “Fazrin Ismail” Twitter account.

He was charged with committing the offences between 9.58am and 10.29pm on March 23 and 25, with the posts read at the Cybercrime and Multimedia Investigation Division Office at the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department in the capital at 7pm on March 28.

He was allowed bail at RM2,000 on each count with one surety. The court set May 12 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Shahrizzat Amadan prosecuted, while Sufazrin was unrepresented. – Bernama, April 8, 2020.
