PEOPLE can travel beyond 10km from their homes under the movement control order if they have valid reasons, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

Ismail said police are given leeway to allow people to travel further than 10km from their homes if it is important.

“If you can’t find food at your place within the 10km radius, then police have the discretion to allow you to travel to the next town. But if only the supplies you need are not available in your area.

“Also there is some confusion on health issues. Some had to cancel their plans because the clinic or hospital is outside the 10km radius.

“If it involves health, the police can again use their discretion. Given that you have ample proof and solid reason,” he said during a press conference.

At another press conference, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said there is no travel restriction on people seeking treatment.

“There is no reason why one must be stop from getting treatment,” he told a press conference in Serdang.

He said a less strict order must be given to those living in Sabah and Sarawak and not so much for individuals in the peninsula as there are many health care centres.

The MCO was introduced on March 18 in effort to break the chain of Covid-19 infection cases in the country.

The government has extended the restriction order to April 14 after the number of infections spiked in recent weeks.

As of yesterday, 50 people have died due to the virus and 208 new infections were reported taking the national total to 3,116.

Meanwhile, 122 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the number of recoveries to 767.

Of those still receiving treatment, 105 are in intensive care with 54 of them on ventilators.– April 3, 2020.
