SINGAPORE has recorded its 1,000th positive case of Covid-19, following an additional 74 cases, of which 20 are imported and 54 are local cases.

Of the local cases, one involved a 34-year-old female Malaysian who is a Singapore work pass holder and currently not linked to any previous cases.

She is currently warded at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), said the republic’s Health Ministry in a statement last night.

The 20 imported cases had travel history to Australia, Europe, South America, Africa, Asean and other parts of Asia.

Singapore has also identified two more new clusters comprising the Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home in Thomson Lane and a dormitory in 55 Sungei Kadut Loop.

Apart from new clusters, it reported three more cases from the public healthcare sector that involved a clinical research coordinator and a nurse at SGH as well as a doctor at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Five more patients have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total to 245.

Of the 457 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving while 24 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

As at noon, 14,050 close contacts have been identified for quarantine.

Meanwhile, according to the Singapore High Commission in KL and Consulate-General in JB Facebook page, the republic yesterday handed over 5,000 universal transport medium (UTM) swabs to Malaysia, which can help test for the virus within minutes.

The UTM swabs were handed over by Singapore’s High Commissioner Vanu Gopala Menon to Malaysia’s Health Minister Dr Adham Baba in Putrajaya.

“Malaysia is also fighting the Covid-19 situation. Its government had reached out to Singapore for additional UTM swabs to help buffer its stocks.

“In the spirit of cooperation and friendship between our countries and our peoples, the Singapore government has offered to contribute 5,000 UTM swabs to Malaysia, and Malaysia has accepted,” said the page. – Bernama, April 2, 2020.
