46 more held for flouting MCO in Sarawak


A TOTAL of 46 individuals were detained for breaching the movement control order (MCO) throughout Sarawak in operations conducted from 8am yesterday to 8am today.

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Dev Kumar M.M. Sree said with the latest arrests, the total number of people detained for defying MCO in the state since last week has risen to 276.

“Miri has the most offenders with 12 people followed by Kuching with nine; Sibu with eight; Saratok with three; two each in Padawan, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman, Limbang, and Dalat, one each in Bintulu, Serian, Lawas and Sarikei,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Dev said 83 people were charged in court for breaching the order.

“Among the districts, Sibu leads with 31 individuals, followed by Padawan (13), seven each in Miri and Dalat; six each in Sarikei, Lawas, and Matu Daro; four in Kuching; two in Kota Samarahan and one in Bintulu,” he said.

All the offenders were detained under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within The Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

He said if found guilty, they could be jailed up to two years and fined RM10,000 or both. – Bernama, March 31, 2020.
