THE appointment of new state executive councillors for Perak will only be made once the Covid-19 crisis has been brought under control and the movement control order (MCO), in place since March 18, is rescinded, said Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

He said the state constitution did not stipulate a fixed time frame for the appointment of excos once a new state government had been formed.

“Plans to appoint the new excos were postponed five days after I took the oath of office,” he said in a message, after chairing a meeting of the state security council in Ipoh today, adding that he was being assisted by the state secretary and civil servants.

The PH government in Perak fell on March 10. Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah consented to the re-appointment of Faizal as the menteri besar in accordance to the provisions of the state constitution, with Bersatu forming the Perikatan Nasional alliance.

The nationwide MCO to contain the spread of the coronavirus was first introduced on March 18 and was to end tomorrow, but has since been extended to April 14. – Bernama, March 30, 2020.
